Changing Themes

A theme refers to a course's color palette and accompanying visuals. The default Moodle course theme is called More and displays the "PSU green" background. There are three other themes to choose from and each has their own unique style. Themes have been designed to ensure accessibility and consistency for students across all courses. Follow the steps below to inject some creativity and personality to your course.

  1. In you Moodle course page, Locate the course's Administration block (usually found on the left sidebar) and click Edit settings.
  2. Click on the Appearance section to expand its options. Open the drop down menu for Force theme and select a different theme (More, Essential, Clean, or Aardvark).
  3. Once you've selected a theme, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save changes.
  4. Repeat these steps until you've found a theme that you'd like to use. Tip: If you're teaching multiple sections of the same course, set each to a different theme so you can identify which section you're editing at a glance.
