3. Portfolio Pages: Adding Images, Gallery, PDF, and Changing Layout

OR

How to add multiple and singular images and change the layout.

  1. Login to myPlymouth.

  2. Select the myCourses tab and the myCourses window appears.

  3. In the right column of the window, in the myLearning section, click on Mahara (ePortfolio) You will now be looking at your Mahara portfolio's homepage.

  4. Click the Portfolio tab.

  5. Click on the Pages sub-tabs.

  6. Select the page you want to edit and click the Pencil icon OR click the page name and then click the Edit button in upper right side of the screen.

  7. Depending if you want to place a single image or multiple images on the page, here are block type names and where to find them:

    1.  Image: This is for displaying a single image block. This is the first in the block type list on left side of screen.

    2. Under the Media block type, select Image Gallery: This is for displaying multiple images in one block. 

Placing a block type on a portfolio page:

When you see your cursor turn into a crosshairs symbolcrosshairs hovering over the PDF block type, you can drag and drop the PDF block type into any area on the page that appears with dash lines and filled with a light color as the cursor hovers over the area. Something like this: . Once you drop the block, the PDF block type selection screen will open up.

OR

you can click on the block type and a window will open up to ask you where you want to position the block.  After selecting the location, click the “Add” button to complete the location and the block type selection screen will open up.  Most people prefer the drag and drop feature.

Filling out the "Image" block type configuration window:

  1. Change the title of the block or to "no title" by deleting the existing title text.

  2. Select the image file you want the viewer to see by clicking the "Select" button to the right of the file name.  Only image files (like jpeg, png, etc) will be displayed to choose from. Or you can upload a file from your computer and it will automatically be selected.

  3. If Comments are ON, click the pencil icon and the Edit file screen will open.  Here you can change the file name, give a description to the file and turn comments OFF. Click the "Save changes" button this will save any edit changes to the file.  

  4. Click the Show Description to ON if you want an image's description to show to viewers of the page.  The default is OFF.

  5. The Width is rarely used.  Use it if you want to change the size of the image to be smaller within the size of the column/row size. The default is the size of the column/row of placement.

  6. Retract the block manually, automatically or never (default).  After you save your changes, test the retractable option by clicking the "Display Page" tab next to "Edit Content" tab.  Click the "Edit" button in the upper right side of screen to get back into "Edit" mode.

  7. Click the "Save" button when done.

Filling out the "Image Gallery" block type configuration window:

  1. Under the Media block type, select Image Gallery: This is for displaying multiple images in one block.  
  2. Click the radio button next to the option you want under the "Image Selection" title. The options available are "display all images from one of your folders", "choose multiple individual images" or "display images from an external gallery".  
  3. Click the radio button next to the option you want under the "Style" title.  The options are either Thumbnails (Square - this is the default) or Slideshow.  
  4. Click the "Save" button to save your configuration.

Filling out the "PDF" block type configuration window:

  1. Change the title of the block or to "no title" by deleting the existing title text.

  2. Select the PDF file you want the viewer to see by clicking the "Select" button to the right of the file name.  Only PDF file will be displayed to choose from. Or you can upload a file from your computer and it will automatically be selected.

  3. If Comments are ON, click the pencil icon and the Edit file screen will open.  Here you can change the file name, give a description to the file and turn comments OFF. Click the "Save changes" button this will save any edit changes to the file.  

  4. Retract the block manually, automatically or never (default).  After you save your changes, test the retractable option by clicking the "Display Page" tab next to "Edit Content" tab.  Click the "Edit" button in the upper right side of screen to get back into "Edit" mode.

  5. Click the "Save" button when done.
