Kaltura - Access Denied

This article pertains to the following circumstance:

When trying to view a Kaltura video in Moodle or when clicking on the "Kaltura" link in myPlymouth (from within the myLearning channel block) - see image below

...a webpage partially loads and displays the message: 

Access Denied

The cause of this issue is related to how web-browsers are configured to handle HTTP cookies.
By following the steps below you can adjust your web-browsers HTTP cookie settings to allow access to the Kaltura media gallery and to view videos posted by others in Moodle. 

Safari

  • Open the Safari web-browser
  • Click on the word "Safari" from the top menu bar
  • Click on "Preferences…"
  • Click on the "Privacy" tab
  • Under Cookies and website data: Click “Always allow”
  • Close the window
  • Reload the Kaltura webpage 

Firefox

  • Open the Firefox web-browser
  • Click on the word "Firefox" from the top menu bar
  • Click on "Preferences…"
  • Click on the "Privacy" tab
  • Under History - Firefox will: select from the dropdown menu: Use custom settings for history
  • Check off: Accept cookies from sites
  • Accept third-party cookies: "Always"
  • Keep until: they expire
  • Close the Preferences window 
  • Reload the Kaltura webpage 

 Google Chrome 

  • Open the Google Chrome web-browser
  • Click on the word "Chrome" from the top menu bar
  • Click on "Preferences…"
  • Click "Settings" from the left sidebar (if it is not already selected)
  • Click on the "Show advanced settings…" link at the bottom of the page
  • Under "Privacy" click on "Content Settings" 
  • Under "Cookies" click on "Allow local data to be set (recommended)"
  • Click the Done button at the bottom of the window
  • Close the Preferences window 
  • Reload the Kaltura webpage 

Internet Explorer

  • Click on the IE tools (gear icon)
  • Click on "Internet Options"
  • Click on the "Privacy" tab
  • Select "Advanced"
  • Check off the following items: 
  • Override automatic cookie handling 
  • First-party Cookies - Accept 
  • Third-party Cookies - Accept
  • Always allow session cookies 
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Apply"
  • Click "OK"
  • Reload the Kaltura webpage 

*These troubleshooting steps have been tested in the following computing environments

Apple Mac - OSX El Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21)

Safari - Version 9.0.3 (11601.4.4)
Firefox - Version 45.0
Google Chrome - Version 48.0.2564.116 (64-bit)

Windows 7 (64-bit)
