How to use the Group Options

Watch this brief video to help you learn how to use My Groups (Create a Group), Find Groups, My Friends, Find Friends, and Topics sections within the Group Section.

How to use the Table of Contents: Above in the upper left corner (three lines) is the Table of Contents of the video.  Click the three lines and you can find a specific subject in the video by scrolling through the Table of Contents.  Click the three lines again to get hide the Table of Contents.

To log into Mahara, follow these instructions:

  1. Login to myPlymouth.

  2. Select the myCourses tab and the myCourses window appears.

  3. In the right column of the window, in the myLearning section, click on Mahara (ePortfolio). You will now be looking at your Mahara portfolio's homepage.

  4. Click the Groups tab.

How to use the Groups Options

The group section has six options (Sub-tabs) available for use:

  1. My Groups

    1. Select the type of grouping you want to display whether it is "All my groups", "Groups I own", "Groups I'm in" or "Groups I'm invited to". 

    2. Select the category to refine your search.

    3. Click the "Filter" button once you have completed your selection.

  2. Find Groups

    1. Enter in a partial or full group name. A list of all groups that match anywhere within the name will be displayed.

    2. Select the type of grouping you want to display whether it is "All groups", "Groups I can join", "Groups I'm in" or "Groups I'm not in". 

    3. Select the category to refine your search even more.

    4. Click the "Search" button once you have completed your selection.

  3. My Friends

    1. Select the type of search you want to display whether it is "All friends", "Current friends" or "Pending friends". 

    2. Click the "Filter" button once you have completed your selection.

  4. Find Friends

    1. Enter in a partial or full name of a friend. A list of all friend names that match anywhere within the name will be displayed.

    2. Click the "Search" button once you have completed your selection.

  5. Institution Membership - PSU doesn't use this option

  6. Topics - This is a list of discussion topics from any group you are a member.  Below is explaining each heading.

    1. Topic - The title of the forum topic as well as the group and the forum in which this topic is discussed are shown. They are all linked so that you can easily go to them.

    2. Posts - The number of posts in this discussion topic is displayed.

    3. Last Post - The beginning of the latest comment in the topic is displayed along with the name of the author (linked to the author’s profile page) and the date and time when the forum post was created.

    4. Results - Below the list of results at the bottom of the screen, is the amount of items found.  If the amount of items found is greater than 10 (which is the items per page), you will be able to navigate to other pages with the navigation buttons.
