Error Opening PowerPoint from Moodle on classroom computers

When attempting to use Internet Explorer to open PowerPoints or other Microsoft Office files from Moodle (or other websites) on classroom or cluster computers, you may encounter the error: "There's not enough memory or system resources to open PowerPoint."

This is due to a setting in IE called Enhanced Protected Mode, which needs to be changed when logged into a classroom or cluster computer.

To disable Enhanced Protected Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Start Internet Explorer for the desktop.
  2. Tap or click Tools, and then tap or click Internet options.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Enable Enhanced Protected Mode check box under Security.
  4. Tap or click OK.

Alternatively, using a different browser will also allow files to open normally: In Chrome, PPT files are downloaded automatically and can be opened successfully. In Firefox, PPT file previews open successfully without the need to download.
