The Makerspace at Draper and Maynard

The Makerspace at Draper & Maynard is doing a "soft open" for the Fall semester while equipment is being installed and tested. The space is available for courses and their relevant assignments, as well as workshops and events that require the equipment. Participants in the space will need to attend a safety workshop, and undergo training for any specialty equipment. These workshops will be offered throughout the semester, or can be arranged in advance for courses.
General offerings and tools:
Sewing machines and kits, a dapping block, volt meters, a 100 Mhz oscilloscope, soldering irons, and Dremel tools. Dewalt impact drivers and drills, jigsaws, a reciprocal saw, a grinder, and an angle drill. A hand held 1.5 hp router, and bench top drill presses.
Raspberry Pi and Arduino introductory project kits. A Manual small-gauge ring roller, and Ubuntu-based PCs for IoT, and robotics class programming.
An eyeglass repair kit, and PC screwdriver sets. Multiple socket, hex wrench, and crescent wrench sets. Various hand tools, pliers, and clamps.
The following is an equipment summary.
2D Printing and Cutting
The GS-24 Vinyl Cutter can cut vinyl for signage, paint masking, and heat transfers, as well as dress patterns.
FDM/FFF 3D Printers
Fused deposition modeling™ (FDM) or Fused filament fabrication (FFF) printers use a heated print head to extrude a wide variety of polymer filaments, creating shapes.
At the D&M Makerspace we can support a wide variety of printable materials, including aerospace high temperature polymers, wood, nylon, ceramic, carbon fiber, and metal.
The Funmat HT is a 3D printer that has a heated interior, for thermoplastic 3D printing of aerospace materials. High performance, heat resistant, chemical resistant polymers,
• Auto Bed Leveling
The latest 3D printer from Ultimaker sports dual extrusion, allowing the use of two different filaments simultaneously. This would allow two colors in the same print, or the 3D print to contain two different materials, such as a regular plastic and a soluble plastic. This would allow complex nested shapes to be printed, such as a caster with ball bearings inside it. Soaking the print would then dissolve the soluble media, leaving the completed print.

Standard filaments: PLA, ABS, PETG, Nylon, CPE, PP, PC, TPU 95A, others.
A previous model and very capable 3D printer, with an extended print volume.
SLA 3D Printers
Stereolithography printers fire a laser in to a polymer resin bath, hardening the material. The resulting 3D prints must be cured with ultraviolet light.
Our two Peopoly Moai large volume SLA printers have a variety of resins available, including a special cartable resin for creating fireable ceramic molds.
This is a computer programmable kiln for sintering metal prints from the 3D printers. It has a very large working volume, and can also combine 3D metal prints.
The controls take the print through a ramping process, hitting precise temperatures for certain lengths of time.

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) automated machining systems
This 150-watt Laser Cutter is capable of engraving, carving, and cutting a variety of materials, including plastic, wood, and 18ga. metals in 4'x3' sheets.
The ShopBot PRSalpha is a full-sized gantry-based CNC system, for cutting, drilling, carving, and machining. It is capable of working with full 4’x8’ sheets of material, including wood, plastic, aluminum, and other materials.
Using temperatures four times the surface of the sun, the Torchmate 4800 heats air to a plasma state, and uses it to cut intricate shapes in steel up to 1 1/4 inches thick. The Torchmate 4800 is capable of working with full 4'x8' sheets, and features a water table for exhaust handling.
Industrial and Shop Equipment
Edwards 55 Ton Ironworker with PowerLink system
The Edwards 55 Ton Ironworker includes a Punch Assembly with Pedestal Die Table, Flat Bar Shear, Angle Shear and a universal open tooling station designed to accept optional tooling accessories.
Use the Ironworker to punch, cut, shape, angle, and bend steel.
Edwards 10-Ton Tube Bender
Using the hydraulic power takeoff of the Ironworker, the Tube Bender is designed for medium to heavy material. The Edwards 10 Ton Bender powers through 2" (I.D.) Schedule 40 pipe, 2-1/2" (O.D.) tube and 2" square tube quickly and accurately. We have a variety of dies available for the tube bender.
Baileigh DP 1000 Drill Press
Baileigh Box Brake BB-4814
A 4-foot box and pan brake for bending and shaping metal up to 48" wide.
Baileigh Horizontal And Vertical Band Saw BS-712MS
The BS-712MS is a convertible horizontal or a vertical band saw.
RING ROLLER R-M55
The Ring Roller rounds a variety of materials in arcs both large and small.
